We are the grassroots arm of the Conservative Party of Canada in the Alberta Foothills
We work with voters, volunteers, and party members to make sure local voices are heard, support Conservative candidates, and represent Foothills priorities within the Conservative Party of Canada and in the House of Commons. Our goal is to build a strong local Conservative movement that reflects the values and concerns of our community.

What the board does
The board manages the day-to-day operations of the riding association. Key responsibilities include:
- Fundraising and financial stewardship to support local activities and election readiness.
- Organizing events, community outreach, and member engagement activities that build strong connections across the riding (from Okotoks and High River to the surrounding rural communities).
- Supporting the MP and helping advance Conservative priorities at the local level.
- Recruiting and mobilizing volunteers and party members.
- Preparing for elections by planning campaign strategy, training volunteers, and ensuring the riding is fully organized and ready when needed.
The Board of the Foothills Conservative Association presently consists of 26 members as follows:
- The Member of Parliament, John Barlow
- 7 Officers and
- 19 Directors
The President is Wayne Meikle.
Annual Board Elections
Every September, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), a brand-new board is elected. Any registered Conservative Party member living in the Foothills riding can vote and/or run for a position. It’s a great opportunity for grassroots members to have a direct say in who leads the local association for the coming year.
Foothills members are proud to represent our riding at the Conservative Party of Canada Convention

If you’re interested in getting more involved—whether that’s joining the board, helping with events, or just learning more—let us know! We’re always looking for passionate Conservatives who want to contribute their time and ideas. Drop us a line at [email protected]
In 2024, the Past President – Wade Nelson – made a short video describing the roles and responsibilities of Foothills’ board member.
The video was produced by Kevin McInnes.
